At COP30, Ethiopia will present innovative solutions, from its hydro-powered grid to its ambitious electric vehicle adoption plans. A key highlight will be the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), which, when fully operational, will meet domestic energy needs and supply affordable clean electricity to neighbouring East African countries.
Ethiopia’s proactive policies aim to curb emissions further, promoting green mobility and sustainable transport systems. Dr. Fitsum Assefa, Ethiopia’s Minister of Planning and Development, noted that these efforts align with the broader BRICS call for stronger international cooperation and financial support for climate-vulnerable nations. At the recent BRICS Summit, leaders underscored the importance of forest conservation, reforestation, and climate tech financing to help developing countries meet their climate commitments.
Ethiopia’s expansive reforestation campaigns and climate-resilient agriculture models continue to gain international recognition. Looking ahead to COP30, Ethiopia aims to secure partnerships and investments to scale its climate solutions. Dr. Fitsum concluded, “We want to show the world what is possible when clean energy, innovation and policy align. Ethiopia is ready to lead by example.”
