African Mining Week 2025: Africa’s Role in the Future of Mining and Energy

African Mining Week (AMW) 2025, scheduled for October 1–3 in Cape Town (South Africa), will convene key stakeholders to explore Africa’s role in the global energy transition. With the continent holding approximately 30% of the world’s critical mineral reserves, including lithium, cobalt, and copper, AMW aims to position Africa as a key player in sustainable mineral supply chains. The event will feature investment-ready projects, policy discussions, and strategies to enhance local value addition and content development, ensuring African nations benefit directly from their resources. A dedicated Technology Forum will highlight advancements in artificial intelligence, automation, and data analytics, demonstrating how these tools can improve exploration, extraction, and sustainability in mining operations.

Sustainability is a central focus of AMW 2025, with sessions promoting responsible mining practices, environmental stewardship, and the regulation of artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM). In countries like Ghana, ASM contributes significantly to the economy, generating substantial foreign earnings. AMW aims to align Africa’s mining sector with global environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards by promoting sustainable practices and regional collaboration.

Co-located with African Energy Week, AMW 2025 offers a strategic platform for cross-sector dialogue, fostering partnerships that can drive infrastructure development and energy access. The event’s focus on harmonizing regulatory frameworks and encouraging regional cooperation seeks to build a more integrated and competitive mining ecosystem across the continent. By bringing together government leaders, industry executives, investors, and innovators, African Mining Week 2025 aims to catalyze investment, advance technology, and promote sustainable growth in Africa’s mining sector, securing the continent’s place in the global critical minerals value chain.
