Ghana’s youth are at the forefront of climate adaptation efforts, driving innovative solutions to address environmental challenges. The Ghana Youth Adaptation Forum, organized by the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA), the Ghana Youth Environmental Movement (GYEM), and the University of Ghana, provides a platform for young leaders to showcase locally rooted initiatives and influence policy change.
Held as the second of eight Youth Adaptation Forums across Africa, the event highlighted diverse youth-led projects in water management, agroecology, and climate education. These initiatives demonstrated the critical role of young people in redefining resilience and fostering sustainable development within their communities.
A key outcome was the Ghana Youth Adaptation Forum Communiqué, which outlines priorities for enhancing youth engagement in climate action. The communiqué calls for increased adaptation finance, particularly for youth-led solutions, expanded climate education, and the creation of green jobs. It also emphasizes the need for inclusive, equitable, and locally led adaptation strategies, advocating for stronger intergenerational collaboration to align policy with youth-driven ideas.
The Ghana Youth Adaptation Forum illustrates the power of youth leadership in shaping climate resilience. By amplifying the voices of young people and promoting collaboration, the Forum contributes to building a more resilient and sustainable future for Ghana and the broader African continent.
